This piece originated in the third piece for string quartet by Igor Stravinsky (1914) , sort of choral litany, harmonized in a dissonant way. The theme is heard at the beginning and followed by twelve variations of character, pace and tempo certainly different, but all seek to highlight the virtuosity or harmonic dimension of the instrument.
This marimba piece was written for the examination of the price of percussion at the Superior National Conservatory for Music of Lyon.
